Raku Pottery

Raku pottery is fired to red hot temperatures, then taken out of the kiln and put into a chamber filled with combustible materials. The chamber is then covered to cause a reduction atmosphere which matures the glaze. The pot is then drenched in cold water to preserve the crackle and irridescent glazes.

Stoneware Pottery

Lois fires her stoneware pottery to 2400 degrees F. which completely vitrifies the clay and the glaze to get a durable yet beautiful finish. She mixes her own glazes and uses a number of techniques to make her pots.
